Early 1950s: Poppy is the junior reporter on the Downingham Post, where it's always her turn to make the tea.

It's Christmas time and Poppy promises her acrobat friend, Maimie, that she'll write a supportive review of the local pantomime that she stars in.

But all does not go according to plan...

Semi-autobiographical story by Monica Dickens, first published in 1951.
