4: Nia Archives

Junglist Nia Archives helped bring back the Best Dance/Electronic category.

Over the years, the categories at the MOBO Awards have changed as different genres have emerged. One genre that originally had its own category in the early years of the awards was dance music. There were categories for dance, jungle and UK garage at various points but no category since the early 00s. Until this year.

Nia Archives was one of those who campaigned for the Best Dance Act to be reinstated. Not only was she successful but she was nominated for it and also for Best Newcomer. She caught up with Ace a couple of weeks before the Awards and tells him why the category matters not just for her but for the next generation of young black British artists and why representation is so important.
