Chris Difford of Squeeze shares songs by his favourite folk and acoustic songwriters.
As a founder of Squeeze, Chris has co-written some of rock's best-loved songs, including the enduring vignettes of 'Up the Junction', 'Cool For Cats' and 'Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)'. He is a Grammy-nominated and double Ivor Novello-winning artist with a lifelong commitment to his craft.
As well as running songwriting retreats for more than 25 years, Chris has collaborated with folk and acoustic songwriters including Kathryn Williams and Boo Hewerdine.
In January 2023, Chris will take part in Radio 2's 21st Century Folk, writing a brand new song about a real Radio 2 listener from the North East of England. The project will create a musical time capsule of northern life in 2023, in which five real people will have their life experiences immortalised in song.
Alongside Difford's musical output - solo and with Squeeze - Chris presents a podcast, 'I Never Thought It Would Happen', on which he interviews fellow songwriters and giants of popular music. Sting, Yungblud, Tom Odell, Nile Rodgers, Kathryn Williams, Guy Garvey, Jack Savoretti, KT Tunstall and Richard Thompson have featured among the guests.
