Egged on by the Press?
The role played by right-wing newspapers in Truss' mini-budget.
βAt last! A true Tory budgetβ, proclaimed The Daily Mail after the mini-budget. Four weeks on and a very different tone: βIn office but not in powerβ, was the front page this Tuesday.
So what exactly is Liz Trussβ relationship with Britainβs press? Was she really βegged onβ by the media, as some of her critics claim, to do what she did in the disastrous mini-budget? And if the opinion polls are to be believed β with her party apparently heading for oblivion at a general election β might traditional Tory papers switch allegiance?
