Piping Quartets and a Taste of the Avant-Garde
Highlights of the International Quartet contest held at Piping Live in August.
Gary West brings you more highlights from this year’s International Quartet Contest held in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in August as part of Piping Live, with sets from the People’s Ford Boghall and Bathgate, the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia, and Johnstone pipe bands. There’s laid back uillean piping from Tom Delany and from Tommy Martin, up tempo dance tunes from Galician supremos, Milladoiro, and a fine rendition of the pibroch, Patrick Og MacCrimmon’s Lament by Fred Morrison. And if a little bit of avant-garde piping takes your fancy, Breton composer and improviser Erwan Keravec supplies all your needs!
