Avid gamer MJ Deans takes a tour of consoles from the 70s to the present day and looks at how Scotland plays a part in the games industry. From Pong to Pacman, MJ revisits some of the old classics.
We meet father of four and keen gamer, Paul Duke, who reminisces about when he got his first console and challenges his two eldest children to try one of his old favourites comparing it to the games they are playing today.
MJ meets Director of the Scottish Games Network, Brian Baglow, to find out where the games industry began in Scotland and how he came to be working on one of the biggest games to hit the gaming world, Grand Theft Auto.
With Abertay ranked the best place in Europe to study degrees in video games, we visit lecturer Kayleigh Macleod to find out what is involved in character animation, with MJ realising it’s a lot harder than it looks.
What goes on inside a games studio? MJ finds out as she meets those working at Dundee-based studio, Hyper Luminal, where she takes a tour and gets the chance to see their upcoming game, Pine Hearts, and talks to Creative Director, Rob Madden, about the inspiration behind it.
There is more to video games than simply playing them, with hundreds working in the industry in writing, character animation and even playing games professionally.
