James Francies’s Inspirations

US piano virtuoso James Francies shares some of the music that inspires him, plus concert highlights from saxophonist Emma Rawicz.

Julian Joseph presents an interview with US piano virtuoso James Francies. Though still in his twenties, Francies has released two acclaimed albums for Blue Note Records and worked with leading figures from the jazz world and beyond, including Pat Metheny, Jeff β€œTain” Watts, Childish Gambino and The Roots. Here he digs into some formative influences, including a technically astonishing piece by a past piano master – Art Tatum.

Also in the programme, a gutsy, groove-driven set from up-and-coming saxophonist and ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Young Jazz Musician finalist Emma Rawicz, recorded for J to Z at the London Jazz Festival.
