with Cathy Macdonald

Two hours of music and conversation with a faith and ethical perspective. Taking the week's events to ask what they say about our values and beliefs.

Can putting up a stoic, public face and getting lost in funeral planning be just as healing as outwardly expressing deeply felt emotions? Or do we need to privately process loss. We look at the formal and informal sides of grief. Cathy talks to Rev Canon John McLuckie , Rector of Old Saint Paul’s Scottish Episcopal Church; Dr Salma Siddique, Clinical Anthropologist and Psychotherapist from the University of St Andrews; and the Reverend Liz Henderson, a Royal Chaplain, Church of Scotland minister and chair and co-founder of Richmond’s Hope, a charity which supports bereaved children and young people.

And as Scotland increasingly becomes a more racially diverse society, is now the time to explore the language we use to describe the complexity of mixed ethnic identity? Joining us to speak about their own experiences of growing up mixed race are musician and author Laila Woozeer whose memoir β€œNot Quite White” charts her own search for belonging and identity and Podcast Producer Halina Rifai.

Len Collingwood, a retired mental health nurse, speaks with Cathy about setting a new Guinness World Record for his cycle from Mongolia to Edinburgh.

Academic and broadcaster at the University of Edinburgh, Professor Mona Siddiqui, Dr Keith Riglin, Bishop of Argyll and The Isles in the Scottish Episcopal Church and Very Rev Dr Susan Brown, Royal Chaplain and Church of Scotland Minister of the Presbytery of Duns join Cathy to share their personal experiences of meeting Her Majesty The Queen.

The Dhammapadipa Temple underwent renovations which includes adding an 80 stone, gold-plated Buddha shipped all the way from Thailand for its new prayer room. Cathy hears from the Buddhist monks that call the temple home.

How can art transform violence into positivity? We’re looking back at the legacy of Joyce Laing with artist Jimmy Boyle and curator Claire Coia.
