Biological anthropologist and archaeologist Brenna Hassett tells Cathy Macdonald the story of how human childhood has evolved over the millennia; the subject of her latest book, Growing Up Human, The Evolution of Childhood.

As part of ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Scotland’s 100 Years of Scottish Stories, listener Joyce MacDonald recalls a dramatic rescue at sea.

The theme of this year’s South Asian Heritage Month is journeys, tying into the 75th anniversary of the Partition of India. Consultant and writer Talat Yaqoob and storyteller Niall Moorjani, who has a festival show called β€˜Mohan: A Partition Story’, discuss how important the stories of displacement and migration that they have grow up with are to second and third generation British South Asians.

Reverend Owain Jones of The United Church of Bute gives his thoughts on award-winning documentary Heart Valley, which is a charming and uncomplicated snapshot of one man at peace with the world, Welsh sheep farmer Wilf Davies.

Is it time to re-evaluate ambition in our post-pandemic world, and can only a privileged few both have it and afford to give it up? Cathy explores this with guests, Talat Yaqoob, campaigner, consultant and founder of Pass the Mic, Dr Paul McCarthy, a senior lecturer in Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University, and Gareth K Vile, secondary school teacher and arts critic.

Arts Critic Gareth K Vile gives us the low down on the shows and themes emerging at this year’s Edinburgh festivals that delve a bit deeper into the human condition.

And Orthodox Jewish comedian Rachel Creeger tells Cathy what compelled her into comedy and how faith fits into her fringe stand-up show Pray It Forward.
