Alina Bzhezhinska Take 5
The Ukrainian harp player and composer Alina Bzhezhinska is Jamie’s guest. Plus, a look ahead to the Love Supreme festival.
The Ukrainian harp player and composer Alina Bzhezhinska joins Jamie for a Take 5 interview.
Surrounded by music growing up in Lviv, Alina was entranced by the harp at first sight. Initially working in classical music, she studied in Poland and the US before moving to the UK where she has long been part of the jazz scene – leading her own Hip Harp Collective and collaborating with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings.
Alina is releasing a brand new album this September titled Reflections, which blends original tunes with innovative covers of classics by Dorothy Ashby, Mongo SantamarΓa and others. She speaks about being inspired by Alice Coltrane, sharing the stage with spiritual jazz heavyweight Pharoah Sanders and the ideas behind Reflections.
Jamie also looks ahead to the upcoming jazz festival Love Supreme, which Alina is playing, with tracks from a few artists on the lineup.
