Before this discovery, type one diabetes was widely regarded as a death sentence and it was in 1922 that insulin was first successfully used to treat a critically ill patient in Toronto. Since then it has saves countless peoples lives.
Joining Adam to discuss the history of insulin is Kersten T Hall, Author of βInsulin: The Crooked Timberβ. Describing current diabetes therapy in Wales is Professor Susan Wong from the School of Medicine at Cardiff University. And Dr Julia Townson from the Centre for Trials Research in Cardiff, explains how cutting edge AI technology may help in predicting whether children are more or less likely to develop type one diabetes.
