Gem Of A Job

Nalini uncovers the world of Dr Maria Maclennan who uses jewellery to help solve crimes, identify disaster victims and missing people.

Dr Maria Maclennan has been fascinated by jewellery her entire life and now she is the world's first dedicated forensic jeweller. She uses jewellery and personal artefacts found at crime scenes and on the bodies of disaster victims to help solve cases and identify people. Her work takes her around the world to mass fatality sites, where she works with teams of forensic professionals to help bring peace to grieving loved ones.

Nalini takes us into her work station in Edinburgh College of Art where most of her research is carried out. Here we explore the project she is currently working on in Greece to identify migrant people who lost their lives trying to cross the border.
