Out of Ireland
The best of pipe music from Ireland, with Terry Tully, the St Lawrence O'Toole Pipe Band, and an exploration of an eighteenth century collection performed by Jerry O'Sullivan.
In the week that Dublin piping legend, Terry Tully, has announced his retirement, Gary West winds the clock back to 1993, to bring you highlights from a mesmerising solo recital he performed in Manchester, as well as re-living the performances which won his band, the St Lawrence O’Toole, the world championship title in 2010. The other principal bagpipe form of Ireland, the uillean pipe, features too, with music from an 18th century collection played by New York based musician, Jerry O’Sullivan. There’s also a piece of music that might even be older than that, courtesy of the Old Blind Dogs, as well another taster from a recent release from up and coming player, Eddie Seaman, while we kick things off with those elder statesmen of the Scottish folk band world, the Tannahill Weavers, with a track from their 50th anniversary album.
