CΓ©cile McLorin Salvant Interview

Jamie is joined by the Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter CΓ©cile McLorin Salvant to talk about embracing weirdness on her new album Ghost Song

Jamie’s guest this week is the acclaimed US vocalist and songwriter CΓ©cile McLorin Salvant.

Raised in Miami by French and Haitian parents, CΓ©cile grew up surrounded by a wide range of music and began singing lessons at a young age. She went on to study in France before her career was kickstarted by winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Award in 2010. Since then she’s won three Grammy awards and gained a reputation as one of the most unique voices in modern jazz.

CΓ©cile says she is embracing her weirdness with her new album Ghost Song – a carefully considered collection of tracks which span originals, traditional songs and covers of artists including Kate Bush.

She talks to Jamie about her wide musical interests, love of Sarah Vaughan and how the songs of this new record are like pages in a diary.
