Ken’s Bruce’s Piano Room is open all month with guests playing live alongside the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra, so we’ve our own small tribute with a handful of the finest piano-led classics from the decade, including standout songs from Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, and Carole King who’s also marking her 80th birthday on the 9th of February.

This Week In Music includes stories and archive from The Police, who tell the tale of their punky debut single, recorded in 1977 for just 150 pounds. We also hear from Elton John, reminiscing about February 1973, when he was stuck in Jamaica, and his album ‘Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player’ was new at no.1. Plus John Lennon describes the bizarre 1970 Top Of The Pops appearance for his single ‘Instant Karma’ with wife Yoko.

The latest addition to Johnnie Jukebox is the 1972 chart debut from a piano-playing lady who had listener Drew Tosh captivated from the moment he first saw her on TV.

We’re back to November 1971 for our One Of A Kind record, and it’s an instrumental track that sat alongside Slade, Tom Jones, and Rod Stewart in the Top 5, but is rarely heard these days.

Plus we’ve more of your stories, requests and dedications, so get in touch anytime for a mention on one of our future shows: walker@bbc.co.uk
