Connecting the Celts
With Celtic Connections underway in Glasgow, Gary West invites you to celebrate some of the national and regional piping traditions which are thriving today.
With the Celtic Connections festival underway in Glasgow, Gary West invites you to lend your ears to some of the vibrant piping traditions which lie at the roots of some of these connections. With the main piping extravaganza of the festival having fallen victim to the Covid situation, join Gary instead as he showcases the music of some of those who would have been taking to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall stage this very night, with sets from Northumbrian piper, Andy May, uillean piper, Mike McGoldrick, Galician supremo, Susana Sevaine and Glasgow-based star of the Scottish scene, Finlay MacDonald. Also on the bill tonight are samplings of Celtic Connections concerts of the past featuring the Inveraray and District Pipe Band from Argyll and the Bagad Cap Caval from Brittany, as well as a solo highland pipes sets from Craig Sutherland and a classic tune from the pibroch tradition performed by Euan MacCrimmon.
