03/12/21 The Secretary of State for the Environment on the new post-Brexit farming support scheme

More details on the new approach to farm payments in England: public money for public goods. But is it enough money to get farmers on board?

The biggest change in farming in a generation is underway: it’s the transition from a system of subsidy money paid to farmers based on the amount of land they have to, in England at least, a system of paying public money for public goods. We hear details from the Secretary of State for the Environment, George Eustice, and mixed reaction from farming and conservation groups.

And rounding off our week on farm labour, we visit a farm in Shropshire where Peter Davies has worked for the last 60 years, and at 81 is still doing four days a week.

Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced in Bristol by Beatrice Fenton.
