Pipes, Poets and Piobaireachd
An eclectic range of bagpipe music from Scotland, Ireland and Australia, and a taste of the poetry of Nobel prizewinner, Seumas Heaney, in partnership with piper, Liam O'Flynn.
Gary West brings you top drawer music from an eclectic range of bagpipe forms and styles, both traditional and modern, as well as a taster of the music-inspired poetry of Nobel prize winner, Seumas Heaney in partnership with the Uillean pipe maestro, Liam O'Flynn. The Scottish Smallpipes have been enjoying a major renaissance for forty years now, and they feature tonight in the playing of early revivalist trailblazer, Gordon Mooney, and contemporary rising star, Brighde Chaimbeul, while solo Highland piping is contributed by two of the younger generation of today's elite players, Finlay Johnston and Callum Beaumont. The vintage sound of two world champion ensembles, the Dysart and Dundonald and Victoria Police pipe bands, complete our menu of pipes, poets and piobaireachd.
