Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

When I was young the most beautiful woman on screen was Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn鈥檚 life had many tragic twists. This gifted woman was a victim of her times.

Here鈥檚 a wee story about this mysterious woman which shows another side of God.

Just imagine: Marilyn goes up to heaven after she died.聽 When she arrives, St Peter opens the book of life and muses: 鈥淢arilyn I don鈥檛 think I can take you into heaven. Looking through this book it seems to me you鈥檒l have to go to hell. You have lived such a confused life that I cannot see how you could come to heaven.鈥

Marilyn Monroe looks Peter straight in the eye. 鈥淧eter,鈥 she admits, 鈥渁ll you have written in your book is true, but my heart is full of compassion; deep down I鈥檓 a really good person.鈥

Peter insists that heaven is not on; she鈥檒l have to go to hell.聽Marilyn argues that because of her tragic life she deserves to be in heaven.

Eventually Peter seeks help from The Lord who advises: 鈥淕ive Marilyn this test and see what happens.鈥 Peter explains what she has to do to get through the pearly gates.

鈥淢arilyn, this is a test to see if what you are saying is true or not. Heaven is across that great divide and hell is down below. You must walk across this rope to get to heaven; but remember that if you have even one wrong thought as you cross over, you will immediately drop down to hell. Are you ready for the final test?鈥

鈥淪ure Peter,鈥 Marilyn says. She begins to walk across the rope to heaven. Peter is following closely behind holding her book of life. Half way across Peter looks up and sees this vision of Marilyn in her best Hollywood pose gliding across the rope 鈥 and Peter drops down to hell.

The point of the story is that the God I believe in is on Marilyn鈥檚 side. The God of compassion never judges us harshly, always rewards an honest trier, has a wonderful sense of humour and will be thrilled to welcome Marilyn, Peter and every single one of us who has a good heart - because when you appreciate what you have, you have everything you need.
