Roy’s walking on egg shells while Jennifer’s feelings are bruised.

Roy accompanies Kirsty to the rewilding site to look for butterfly eggs. Kirsty opens up about not feeling great with Christmas approaching. It takes her right back to discovering the truth about Philip. Roy emphasises the positives – soon she’ll be completely done with Philip. He’s not impressed when Kirsty admits she’s going to visit Philip in prison and implores her to think of her own safety first. This riles Kirsty and they part on bad terms.
Ben tells Elizabeth his and Beth’s weekend in London courtesy of Vince has done him good. Jennifer joins them and is surprised by the details that Ben and Elizabeth share on Ruairi. They try to reassure Jennifer about Ruairi’s lack of communication with her. Elizabeth remembers being the same when she lived in Birmingham when she was about Ruairi’s age. But once Jennifer departs, Elizabeth reveals how chatty Ruairi was when she spoke to him, in contrast to Jennifer’s experience. Ben explains Ruairi had difficulties with his Aldridge family over the summer and he’s now enjoying having some space from them. Elizabeth wonders if there’s anything she can do to help but Ben reckons not. He can’t see Ruairi ever being frequently in Ambridge again. Elizabeth wonders how Jennifer will cope with this.
