The RNLI volunteers race against time to try and save three people in the water in the Bristol Channel, a father and son trapped against a cliff face and a badly injured sailor.
Every day around the UK and Ireland, an unpaid army of men and women, from artists to undertakers and from priests to poets, are ready to put their lives on the line to save those of strangers. From the Bristol Channel to the inland loughs of Ireland, on rocky Atlantic shores and remote Scottish islands Saving Lives at Sea tells the story of these ordinary people who are doing something extraordinary.
This series gives an insight into the lives and the motivations of the volunteers of the RNLI, who have signed up to a unique way of life and who are ready to leave their jobs, their homes and their families to race to the rescue of others, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
