Tribute to The Chieftains' Paddy Moloney
Music and memories of an Irish legend, the late Paddy Moloney.
The best folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond.
This week, Mark pays tribute to an Irish legend: the late Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains.
Pipe and whistle player Paddy, who co-founded the world-famous Chieftains in 1962, has passed away at the age of 83.
Paddy's Irish folk 'orchestra' carried their tradition around the globe, and collaborated with an extraordinary list of musicians: Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, Ricky Skaggs, SinΓ©ad O'Connor, Ry Cooder, Sting, Paolo Nutini, Mick Jagger and even an astronaut in orbit.
Mark Radcliffe plays highlights from Paddy's musical life, and looks back over nearly 60 years of flying the flag for Irish folk music.
Plus a look ahead to this weekend's Manchester Folk Festival.
