Two hours packed with hits and forgotten gems from an incredible decade of music.

Johnnie’s joined this week by Elkie Brooks, one of the UK’s most distinctive voices.

Elkie’s career in the 70s saw her fronting the fantastic band Vinegar Joe, alongside the late-great Robert Palmer, and a new boxed set of their first three albums released between 1972 and ’73 is just out. After they split, both her and Robert achieved huge solo success, and Elkie’s run of memorable hits began with Pearl’s A Singer in 1977 followed by Sunshine After The Rain that same year. When all of her best-loved songs were collected together for the compilation Pearls in 1981, she sold more albums over the next two years than any other British solo female musician. Elkie’s touring this Autumn and into 2022, so she’ll be chatting about being back on the road and reminiscing about her life in the Seventies.

All the usual features are popping up throughout the show, with our look at This Week In Music, plus the latest addition to Johnnie’s Jukebox, and your choice of something that stood out from the rest of the other chart hits that surrounded it at the time in our One Of A Kind slot.
