with Cathy Macdonald
Reponses to the Pandora Papers; cultural attitudes to crying; tackling anti-Semitism through drama; how different faiths address racism and the impact of colourism.
The Pandora papers detailing financial corruption on a global scale have stimulated a range of responses from anger to apathy. Writer and broadcaster, David Goodman; psychologist, Gary Wood, and Armine Ishkanian from the International Inequalities Institute, join Cathy to think through how to respond to these revelations.
Australian actor Guy Pearce has been sharing why, as a man, he thinks itβs ok to cry - but do men in Scotland agree? David Goodman and Gary Wood share their thoughts on weeping.
David Goodman, a member of the Jewish Reform community and Jane Tobias, a member of Orthodox Jewish Community, give their thoughts on The ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ drama βRidley Roadβ, which has opened up the debate about anti-Semitism.
As part of Black History Month, Cathy explores whether religious faiths have been slow to the table when it comes to addressing their own discriminatory practices and beliefs, with Yahya Barry, a Senior Researcher in African Studies at Copenhagen University and Director of the Olive Tree Madrasah in Edinburgh; Nadine Batchelor Hunt a political journalist who has written about her experience of being Black and Jewish and Mukami McCrum, a human rights activist and a Christian in the Presbyterian tradition
Edinburgh-based story-teller, Mara Menzies, tells Cathy about her debut novel βBlood and Goldβ drawing on her Kenyan family history and her love of myth and magic.
And Mara Menzies and Yayha Barry are joined by Talat Yaqub, a campaigner, writer and activist, to share their understanding of colourism - the discrimination that can happen within communities based on skin tone.
