The Rock Show with Johnnie Walker pays tribute to Charlie Watts
Johnnie honours The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, digging into the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Archives to hear from his bandmates and Charlie himself, plus tributes from Brian May and more.
As Keith Richards said in 1979, "Everybody thinks Mick and Keith are the Rolling Stones. If Charlie wasnβt doing what heβs doing on drums, that wouldnβt be true at all. Youβd find out that Charlie Watts IS the Stones.β
In this special Radio 2 Rock Show, Johnnie will dedicate the hour to Charlie and his irreplaceable backbeat. He was simply one of the most iconic, unassuming and legendary players who helped define a generation of rock n' roll pioneers.
With archive interviews from his bandmates and Charlie himself, there will be tributes from some famous friends and fans including Brian May and Stuart Copeland plus Brian Mullins - drummer for new Indiana-based duo The Cold Stares, will explain why Charlie is his ultimate Rock God.
Expect an expertly curated soundtrack from Johnnie, spanning Charlie's career with the Stones in the studio and recorded live on stage.
