The Love Song and Meera Syal
Meera Syal - actor, comedian and playwright - picks the Tracks of My Years. There's another round of the legendary PopMaster quiz plus your love song dedications.
Meera Syal - actor, comedian and playwright - chooses the Tracks of My Years. Born in Wolverhampton to Punjabi parents, Meera rose to prominence as one of the team that created and starred in sitcom 'Goodness Gracious Me', as well as portraying 'Grandma Ummi' to her real-life husband Sanjeev Bhaskar in 'The Kumars at No. 42'. On the big screen Meera was most recently seen in Richard Curtis' film 'Yesterday' and has also appeared in 'Paddington 2' and 'The Nutcracker & The 4 Realms'.
In February this year Meera resurrected her Kumars At No 42 character on Radio 4 for 'Gossip and Goddesses with Granny Kumar'. Ummi gathers together her favourite inspirational women at Wembley Community Centre, aided by her millennial great granddaughter Maya and her arch nemesis "frenemy" Geeta, leader of the local Asian Ladies Silver Bats community group.
Her latest role is playing the lawyer Elizabeth Churchland in the second series of 'Code 404' starring Daniel Mays, Stephen Graham and Anna Maxwell Martin. This hugely popular Sky comedy is set in the near future and revolves around two policemen, DI John Major (Danny Mays) and DI Roy Carver (Stephen Graham). They're your usual wise-cracking partners but with one major difference - Major is half robot after being killed in the line of duty and resurrected using artificial intelligence. In the new series their relationship is in a bad place, but they still find themselves in terrible scrapes, so bank on Meera's character to get them out of their latest bit of bother...but just how trustworthy is she?
The next two tracks Meera has chosen come from Gipsy Kings and Joni Mitchell. Ken also has your love song dedications plus another round of PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk.
