Student Loans, Rescue Dog Welfare, Equity Release

Rescue centres have told You and Yours their vet bills are rising as the dogs being handed to them are increasingly in poor health.

Animal charities have been expecting lockdown dogs to be handed into rescue centres since the beginning of the pandemic.
It hasn't happened yet for some of the big dog charities - Battersea and the Dogs Trust. But some of the smaller charities are now reporting an influx of dogs that have been given up by owners who can't afford the vet fees. We hear from two rescue centres where staff are worried about the increase in dogs in their care with serious health problems.

If you've paid off your student loan, it might be worth checking if you're due a refund. You and Yours has learned that graduates across the UK have overpaid between them more than Β£25 million, and that's just over the last six years. We speak to the Student Loan Company to hear what they're doing to get this money back to people.

Equity Release is becoming popular as a way of releasing money for home improvements or gifts for families, but the interest compounds over time and older policies had much higher interest rates than they generally do today. We hear from a man who wasn't aware of the extent of the loans his parents had taken out in the early 2000's on their house. Now they have died, he's having to sell it to pay back the loan which has tripled.

And if you always have to take something from home on holiday with you - or even everything but the kitchen sink, we want to know. Sathnam Sanghera shares stories of what his mother insists on taking away - including a cheese grater on a recent trip.
