Coverage of the women's basketball semi-final matches as the US aim for a seventh consecutive gold medal and Japan look for their first medal match.
The United States and Serbia play in the semi-finals of the women’s basketball, looking for a spot in Sunday’s final. The winners will play either France or Japan with the aim of winning their seventh straight gold medal in the women’s event. Serbia finished their pool stages second to Spain, with five points. They then had to overcome China on their way to today's semi final. The US topped their pool with six points before toppling Australia in the quarter-finals. Watch the conclusion of this game.
In the second semi-final, Japan take on France for the right to compete for the gold medal. The host nation are looking to appear in their first ever Olympic basketball final but France will pose a serious obstacle to that dream. Both sides will be looking to start quickly before pulling away and holding a cushion of points. Japan's coach, Tom Hovasse, said his side would play in the final against the US...when he was appointed in 2017.
The bronze medal match will take place on Saturday 7 August, with the final on Sunday.
