Chris is pulled in all directions and Alistair guesses the truth.

Chris gets tearful as he and Susan see how Martha is almost sitting up unaided. He’s sad that Alice is missing out on Martha’s milestones. Susan suggests making a video as well as a memory box for when Alice is better. Alice isn’t answering Chris’ calls and he wonders about calling Amy as a way of making contact. Susan says it might be worth a try but warns him that Alice still might not be ready to talk.

Amy is surprised to have a call from Chris. She tells him Alice is out but then Chris hears the door slam and is confused by Amy’s explanations. Amy is reluctant to be the go-between for Alice and Chris and Chris understands that Alice has been drinking. My comes clean about Alice’s behaviour. Initially things were fine but recently Alice has been going out alone and then been upset the next day. Amy’s struggling to cope with looking after Alice on top of her stressful midwifery job. Chris tells her she doesn’t have to bear this load, it’s her family’s responsibility and Alice should come home.

Alistair notices the ladder left out to change a lightbulb at the Stables and apologises to Shula for jumping to conclusions about her and Neil the other week. Shula tells him he hasn’t got it wrong and explains how she felt after her fall. She didn’t want to die because it would mean she’d never see Neil again – she doesn’t want anyone to know she’s in love with Neil.
