with Tony Kearney
Tony Kearney discusses whether we should be vaccinating the young against COVID, whether our phones are at risk of being hacked and addressing the pain of miscarriage.
Following the roll-out of vaccination programmes around the world, the latest stage in the fight against COVID is vaccinating children between 12-17. But is it ethical to vaccinate children and what are the risks? Tony is joined by Dominic Wilkinson, Professor of Medical Ethics at the University of Oxford, and Dr Mary Neal, Reader in Law and lecturer of Medical Ethics at Strathclyde University.
Architect Brian Park spent 13 years repairing and conserving the beautiful Rosslyn Chapel just outside Edinburgh. It involved extensive restoration of the stonework, knave, organ and stained glass. Now retired, Brian reflects on the project and its impact on his own Christian faith.
Most of us are familiar with Black History Month or Pride Month celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, but how many have heard of Disability Pride Month? Susie Fitton, Policy Officer at Inclusion Scotland, and Robert Softley-Gale, Director of Birds of Paradise Theatre Company, explore the importance of a month dedicated to celebrating Disabled communities and raising awareness about the issues they face.
How safe is your phone? And who has access to all the information stored on it? Following a major investigation revealed last week into global abuse of cyber-surveillance technology on mobile phones, Tony talks to Dr Eric Stoddart, who teaches practical theology at the University of St Andrews, and video games designer Cara Ellison about how new spying technology threatens global democracy and our own personal freedoms.
David Lan is one of the producers behind an incredible project that will see a 3.5 metre puppet called Little Amal travel almost 9,000 miles across Europe from Turkey to Manchester. David explains how Amal represents a message of solidarity and support for the thousands of refugees embarking on dangerous journeys in search of sanctuary across the world.
Miscarriage is often regarded as something of a taboo subject but a quarter of all pregnancies end this way. For both the women and men involved, the experience is often accompanied by feelings of loss and guilt. So how can more be done to support both the mothers and fathers who go through a miscarriage? Tony hears from one couple about their experience, and Ruth Bender Atik of the Miscarriage Association explains the support available for those going through this.
