Live Music from Gary Kemp, and Mo Gilligan

Gary Kemp, the songwriter and guitarist has live music recorded from the 麻豆约拍 Radio Theatre, and comedian Mo Gilligan discusses series two of 'The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan'.

Gary Kemp, the songwriter and guitarist, has live music from his new album recorded at the 麻豆约拍 Radio Theatre in London. He also chats to Zoe about the record, 'INSOLO鈥, which is his second solo album. It comes 25 years on from his solo debut 鈥楲ittle Bruises鈥 and Gary has written and produced all songs on the record. The album focuses on two themes: the paradox of solitude in an urban landscape, and his growing obsession with life seen through a rear-view mirror and how the past infects our present. As the songwriter and guitarist in Spandau Ballet, Gary became one of the most commercially successful writers of the decade. During their career Spandau Ballet had 23 hit singles and spent a combined total of 500 weeks in the UK charts, achieving over 25 million album sales worldwide. 鈥楾rue鈥, 鈥楪old鈥 and 鈥楾hrough the Barricades鈥 have become 80鈥檚 classics. 鈥楾rue鈥 has now achieved over five million plays in North America alone and 鈥楪old鈥 was the soundtrack to the London 2012 Olympics.

Comedian and presenter Mo Gilligan, who we know and love for being one of the judges on 'The Masked Singer' and 'The Masked Dancer' chats to Zoe about the return of his BAFTA award-winning Channel 4 series 'The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan'.

Along with Clare Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!

There's also a daily Pause For Thought and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

I鈥檝e been rather cautious returning to general society. But recently, for the first time since 2019, I tiptoed out, to the cinema. But 鈥渃ut鈥 鈥 it didn鈥檛 work out as planned. I鈥檓 a big film fan 鈥 this was a return to my happy place, my quiet place 鈥 well it was actually A Quiet Place Part II: 鈥楾his time it鈥檚 even quieter鈥.

But it didn鈥檛 stay quiet. It鈥檚 been a while since I鈥檝e been to the flicks, so when I accidentally booked a 鈥4DX鈥 ticket, I didn鈥檛 know what 4DX meant. I thought 4DX was like 4K 鈥 enhanced, hi-def picture quality. I鈥檓 na茂ve. For years I thought IMAX was to do with hair removal.

But no, turns out, my 4DX cinema ticket was not just visual. The seats moved! Onscreen an alien breathed down the neck of our hero, so a blast of air hit the back of my head, then the backs of my knees. And I was wearing shorts! Most unnerving. During car chases, my chair jolted left and right. A character ran 鈥 my chair jogged up and down with her!

After 18 months of home comfort and security, this assault on the senses, this wild throwing-about of whatever a 4DX cinema seat is... was unexpected, unpredictable, like the outside world can be.

A vicar friend of mine has been puzzling out how to plan ahead 鈥 how his church can welcome back EVERYONE, including those anxious, vulnerable, uncertain about a seat in church surrounded by others 鈥 although it won鈥檛 throw you around like my cinema seat did. He鈥檚 considering masked and unmasked seating areas, like听smoking and non-smoking areas we had in restaurants 鈥 remember those? When Monday comes, so-called Freedom Day, many of us won鈥檛 be ready yet 鈥 but perhaps all of us could be ready to welcome the rest.

It reminds me of the Parable of the Lost Sheep: The shepherd, or God, going out of his way to search for the missing one percent. In days ahead, I think 鈥榮hepherd thinking鈥 could benefit all of us. Some cinemagoers won鈥檛 return to cinemas, some churchgoers won鈥檛 return to church. I pray we don鈥檛 forget those we can鈥檛 see, those emerging slowly. The outside world can be a quiet place, a noisy place, an unpredictable听place 鈥 but hopefully a place for all of us.
