The Love Song and Shirley Manson

Shirley Manson of Garbage chooses the Tracks of My Years. Ken has your dedications with today's love song and another round of PopMaster.

Shirley Manson, lead singer of the alternative rock band Garbage, chooses the Tracks of My Years. Born in Edinburgh, Shirley has spent the majority of her career commuting between her home city and America to record with Garbage, which originally formed in Madison, Wisconsin. She now lives and works primarily in Los Angeles while maintaining a second home in Edinburgh. To date Garbage has sold over 17 million albums worldwide and are now back with a brand new album called 'No God No Masters' - their first new material in five years. Shirley says the album was inspired by the 'weird subversive pop of Roxy Music'.

During lockdown she spent a lot of time cooking, reading and walking the dog. She also made a playlist on International Women's Day this year, featuring artists such as St. Vincent, Laura Marling, Arlo Parks and Little Simz. Last August she released the second series of her podcast 'The Jump' where she talks to influential musicians from the last two decades.

Garbage's self-titled debut album is now over 25 years old. It's also more than 21 years since their 1999 James Bond opening song for 'The World Is Not Enough' was first released. It was included on the James Bond compilation 'The Best of Bond...James Bond' and Garbage's greatest hits album 'Absolute Garbage'.

Garbage are to co-headline a ten date tour with Blondie later this year, starting on 6th November in Liverpool - they last toured together in 2017. Shirley had the pleasure of inducting Blondie into the rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in March 2006.

The next two tracks Shirley has chosen come from Siouxsie & The Banshees and David Bowie. Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
