Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Junior's Final Tracks of My Years
Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Junior, founding members of The 5th Dimension, pick their final Tracks of My Years. There's the daily love song and more from PopMaster.
Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Junior, founding members of the legendary 60's group The 5th Dimension, choose the Tracks of My Years. The multi-award winning couple had ubiquitous hits including 'Up, Up and Away', 'Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In' and 'Wedding Bell Blues'. They've recently announced their first studio album in over 30 years, 'Blackbird: Lennon-McCartney Icons'. The album sees Marilyn and Billy explore carefully chosen songs from throughout The Beatles' co-writers' songbooks, both with the group and as solo artists, which resonate with the duo right up to the present day. Recorded with producer Nic Mendoza, the album is infused with the couple's original pop and soul sound and also contains tracks such as 'Yesterday', 'Ticket To Ride' and 'Help!'. A track of particular resonance for the couple is 'Silly Love Songs', the Paul and Linda McCartney hit. It was a hit the same year they released 'You don't Have to Be A Star' and both reached number one in America.
Marilyn and Billy will celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary later this year. They have achieved seven Grammy Awards and earned fifteen gold and three platinum records both as members of The 5th Dimension and as a recording duo. They are also credited with making TV history being the first African American couple to host their own television variety show. 'The Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. Show' in the seventies.
The final two tracks they have chosen come from The Beatles and Sly & The Family Stone. Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk.
