Publishers continually invest and innovate to ensure that the integrity of research communication remains of the highest quality. They develop standards and technology that safeguard the value of papers and provide assurance that research is of high quality, trustworthy and easy to access.

Pirate sites, such as Sci-Hub have no incentives to ensure the accuracy of the research articles they illegally harvest. They compromise the security of libraries and institutions, pose a threat to the integrity of the scientific record and harm learned societies who are reliant on income to support their crucial work.
