Jon Fratelli and Ashley Storrie
A celebration of Bloomsday - the annual event commemorating the life of Irish writer James Joyce
The Fratellis have recorded a version of the 70s disco classic Yes Sir I Can Boogie to celebrate the Scotland’s men’s football team’s bid in the Euro 2020 tournament. Jon Fratelli joins Grant to talk about how the band got involved- plus we’ll play the band’s exclusively recorded version for The Afternoon Show.
Comedian Ashley Storrie takes on the notoriously fiendish Getting To Know You challenge.
Colin Macleod, the Isle of Lewis-based singer songwriter and crofter, talks about his new single, Runaway, and album, Hold Fast, and we’ll hear Colin’s recording for The Afternoon Show of an exclusive version of one of the album tracks.
And June the 16th is always celebrated in Ireland as Bloomsday: a commemoration and celebration of the life of Irish writer James Joyce. It’s the day his novel Ulysses (1922) is set, the date of his first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, and named after its protagonist Leopold Bloom. Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland journalist and Joyce enthusiast Brian Taylor joins Grant to explain why, if we haven’t done so already, Joyce, and Ulysses, are worth discovering.
