One For The Heads: Secret Sounds of Plants

Cerys picks you a Slow Sunday selection from her extensive record collection. Cerys catches up with Jason Singh about his new project using plant biodata to compose.

Cerys catches up with composer, sound artist and musician about his new project at Kew Gardens, which sees him take over the Temperate House with a fascinating look at plants as composer. Environmental factors such as light, sound and temperature all provide naturally occurring 鈥榖iodata鈥� generated from plants. Jason then takes this biodata to create a musical score, using technology to record the plants' 'voice'.

Winner of the Songlines Fusion Award Bab L'Bluz's Yousra Mansour explains how they have been blending traditional North African trance music, Chaabi music, funk, 1960s American psychedelic rock and desert blues. Yoursa shares her One For The Heads track, and why she finds it soothing.

Cerys shares records from her extensive collection expect some Pictish Trail, Nat King Cole, Guillermo Gomez and some Candi Staton. With poetry from Kayo Chingonyi, Robert Frost, Dylan Thomas and Ivor Cutler Cerys has a Slow Sunday filled with music, science and sounds.
