Joan Armatrading chats to Ken ahead of the world exclusive play of her brand new single,. Joan released her first album in 1972 when her then record company, by their own admission, had little idea of how to present her. She was the very first female singer/songwriter from the UK to have international success with the songs she wrote and performed, and Joan has performed for Nelson Mandela twice, been given the keys to Sydney; is patron of various charities and has presented shows for both Radio 2 and Radio 4.
Justin Currie, founding member of Del Amitri, chooses the Tracks of My Years. Born in Glasgow, Justin established the band in the early eighties after putting up a sign in a music shop asking for other people who could play instruments to get in touch with him. Throughout their first chapter between 1985 and 2002 the band had a string of hits including ‘Nothing Ever Happens’, ‘Always The Last To Know’ and ‘Roll To Me’. These songs became international radio staples, propelling a career that accomplished five UK Top 10 albums, success in the US and over 8 million sales globally.
February this year saw the release of their brand new single 'It's Feelings' written by Justin and guitarist Iain Harvie, and the forthcoming new album 'Fatal Mistakes' will be available later this month, a full nineteen years since their previous album. In September they will be embarking on a UK headline tour culminating at Glasgow's iconic Barrowlands venue. The tour also includes a substantial run of dates across the country plus a major show at the London Palladium.
The next two tracks Justin has chosen come from Talk Talk and Lloyd Cole & The Commotions. Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
