Rum, Greek Mythology and DNA

Cerys brings you her new music discoveries from around the world. This week Cerys chats to Rum Ambassador Ian Burrell and hears from Lisa Dwan on her latest project Pale Sister.

Cerys brings you her latest music discoveries from around the world mixed in with classic gems spanning across multiple genres and eras. With new music from Johnny Flynn and Robert McFarlane, Slowly Rolling Camera, Mdou Moctar and Mara Simpson as well as reissues from Tom Ze's nephew Lucas Santtana and Marcos Valle. There's also some classic Astrud Gilberto, Billie Holliday, Arthur Conley and Albert King.

Rum ambassador Ian Burrell shares stories associated with the history of rum from plantations to pirates. Ian's love of chemistry sparked his interest in bartending and cocktail making, which has seen him travel the world, including to the Antarctic.

Actress Lisa Dwan shares her thoughts on the Greek myth of Antigone and her latest project Pale Sister, which retells the classic tale seen through the eyes of her sister Ismene, who recounts Antigone's infamous defiance of their uncle, the king of Thebes, and witnesses what happens when a woman speaks truth to power. The play is part of ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Four's Light Up series and was written by Colm Toibin especially for Lisa after the pair taught a course at Columbia University, exploring Antigone’s story and its many adaptations throughout history.

Plus Cerys delves into the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Archives to hear the voices of DNA scientists James Watson and Francis Crick on the moment their research into the structure of DNA clicked and fellow scientist Rosalind Franklin.
