Anna Maxwell Martin, Helen George, John Torode and The Why Workshop

Helen George tells Zoe about the upcoming series of Call The Midwife. Anna Maxwell Martin has the info on her return to Line of Duty and John Torode previews the MasterChef final.

Helen George, the actress best known for playing Trixie Franklin in Call The Midwife, tells Zoe about the latest series on Â鶹ԼÅÄ One. In the first episode Sister Julienne and Dr Turner clash over whether to provide a private care service, and a distressing birth raises fears of another Thalidomide case. Helen also took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, finishing sixth, and partnering with professional dancer Aljaž Skorjanec.

Anna Maxwell Martin is on the show to tell Zoe about her return to Line of Duty. BAFTA award winner Anna will return to Line of Duty as Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael this Sunday night. Viewers will remember no-nonsense DCS Carmichael from series five, where she was brought in as an independent investigator from AC-3 after suspicions mounted over the integrity of Superintendent Ted Hastings. Now with Ted’s forced retirement looming, is Carmichael in position to take control? Anna is also well known for starring in other hit shows Motherland, Bleak House, And Then There Were None.

John Torode previews the MasterChef final on Â鶹ԼÅÄ One. Over six weeks, John and fellow judge Gregg Wallace have put 40 of the UK’s most passionate and talented amateur cooks through their paces in the ultimate test of their culinary prowess as they search for one exceptional home cook worthy of being crowned MasterChef Champion 2021.

It’s The Why Workshop, and Zoe quizzes the QI Elves with more wonders and ponders, including your questions.

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

When I turned 21 I had a party – dressed in a brown, smocked dress, hair fashionably flicked out, my naturally dead-straight locks held rigid with a full can of hairspray.ÌýÌýAt 30 I funked and frolicked at a wine bar, and at 40 (and now grudgingly sharing my celebrations with my husband Dan) my main memory is of the mountain of chocolate-steeped profiteroles the waiter nearly dropped on my lap.ÌýÌý50 was a 1970s party, The Village People and the iridescent Queen, me resplendent in an Abba outfit with sequined flares, Dan looking like he was about to be shot out of a cannon, though insisting he was actually dressed as Elvis. And then 60, well that was lockdown…. small, spoiled at home and with limited opportunities for serious boogying.Ìý

Ìý

Age and aging is taken seriously in Judaism, just not by me.Ìý

Ìý

In the Talmud it tells us that at 30 we are at peak strength, at 40 we should be wise, at 50 we can give advice, at 60 we are respected as seniors, and that 80 is the age of strength.ÌýÌýAt 100, apparently, we are as good as gone out of the world.

Ìý

The late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh lived to the ripe age of 99.ÌýÌýWhen I think about him, during this week of national mourning, I remember his strength as a young man serving in the British navy. I think of his wisdom as the founder of the extraordinary Duke of Edinburgh Award, and of his strength in his lifelong commitment to duty and to service.Ìý

Ìý

These days, as Captain Tom made abundantly clear, 100 can be the life and soul of the party – and it is sad that the Duke passed away just before that momentous milestone.

Ìý

So there won’t be a national party for Prince Philip on June 10th, no Abba, no cake,Ìýno sequins. But we can still celebrate a life well lived, a legacy of achievement, 10 adorable great grandchildren and, most importantly, that for over 70 years the Duke danced throughout his long life with his very own queen held tightly by his side.Ìý
