Kay Mellor on The Syndicate and Tahar Rahim on The Mauritanian plus Tuesday Review
Janice talks to actor Tahar Rahim about The Mauritanian and Kay Mellor on writing and directing the new series of The Syndicate.
On today's Afternoon Show, Janice will be chatting to Kay Mellor creator and writer of The Syndicate about the new series which starts this week on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 1. The drama explores how winning the lottery transforms the lives of ordinary people and stars Neil Morrissey, Kym Marsh, Gaynor Faye, Emily Head and You Tube blogger and Strictly contestant Joe Sugg making his TV acting debut.
The Mauritanian, directed by Kevin MacDonald tells the dramatic story of the Guantanamo Bay prisoner held for 14 years - without a charge. Jodie Foster plays Defence lawyer Nancy Hollander and Tahar Rahim talks to Janice about taking on the role of Mohamedou Ould Slahi.
Author Fiona Mozley on her second novel, Hot Stew set in a brothel in Soho, very contrasting to the setting of her Booker-shortlisted novel, ELMET which was set in an isolated rural area in Yorkshire.
Our Tuesday Reviewers, critic Gareth Vile, writer and journalist Catherine Simpson and former editor of Jackie magazine and reviewer, Gayle Anderson will be sharing their thoughts on The Irregulars, a new supernatural reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock, A Life in Pictures, a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 2 biographical documentary series that tells the story of six famous faces through the photographs that have come to define them. We will be talking about the first in the series that focuses on Freddie Mercury’s life. And another documentary series Worn Stories that tells the tales behind clothes and the people who wear them. From a pair of boots symbolizing survival, a dress that’s come to stand for recovery, or a uniform that reaffirms an identity, the series is based on the New York times bestseller of the same name.
