Frogspawn, Climate Change and Adventures on Horseback

Mark Stephen and Helen Needham with stories from the great outdoors.

In the week that new legislation to bring about tougher penalties for dog attacks on livestock has been passed in the Scottish Parliament, Helen Needham speaks to an Aberdeenshire farmer about how important it is to keep your dog under close control when around livestock.

Claire Alldritt is a paramedic who has spent the last ten years exploring the North East of Scotland and further afield on horseback. Along with her horses, Yogi and Swift, Claire met up with Mark to tell him all about her adventures.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scotland’s Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs Correspondent Kevin Keane joins us live to tell us about his upcoming Disclosure documentary, How You Can Stop Climate Change.

Mark is near Torphins in Aberdeenshire to see the work that has been done to restore the Beltie Burn and find out the benefits that this kind of project can bring to a river ecosystem.

Helen Needham heads out looking for frogspawn under the watchful eye of her six-year-old, Flora, armed with a bucket and some pondwater. And we find out what frogs and toads are up to during spring.

It’s that time of year again, the clocks spring forward on Sunday 28th March and Euan has been looking into the history of daylight-saving time.

In the second of her pieces for Out of Doors looking back on her cancer diagnosis and treatment, presenter and blogger Pennie Latin explains how wild swimming in Loch Ness has helped with her recovery.

And Euan has left us a mystery bird- can you guess this week’s attractive enigma just from its call?
