Oliver Hides hears from the dwindling band of brothers who witnessed the atom bomb tests that saw Britain's military enter the nuclear age in the 1950s and 1960s.
Almost 70 years on, they've just been told that their service in the deserts of Australia and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean doesn't qualify for recognition by a medal.
Now the association that represents them is marshalling its arguments and forces to try and make the authorities reconsider that decision.
