20/02/21 Farming Today This Week: Carbon offsetting, foot and mouth anniversary, rural services
Charlotte Smith hears how Microsoft is using Australian cattle ranches to offset its carbon emissions, and looks back 20 years to the devastating foot and mouth outbreak.
Firms looking to offset their carbon emissions usually talk about planting trees, so the news that Microsoft is using Australian cattle ranches as carbon sinks has come as a bit of a surprise. But could it also be a pointer to a potential new source of income for British farmers?
Twenty years ago this week, a vet identified foot and mouth disease in pigs at an abattoir in Essex, beginning one of the darkest episodes for British agriculture in generations.
And we hear from the rural services surviving lockdown.
Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
