The Apology Line, Celtic Connections and Ashley Campbell

Janice hears about the 2021 take on Celtic Connections festival - this year fully one. Plus a new podcast about the man behind New York art project The Apology Line.

This year’s Celtic Connections is underway: the entire festival has gone online this year, with specially recorded performances available to watch every night between now and the beginning of Feburary. Creative Producer Donald Shaw, and musicians Karine Polwart and Siobhan Miller give Janice a preview of tonight’s show, a Burns themed songwriters’ circle called Come Away In.

Between 1980 and 1995, a phone line operated in New York City called The Apology Line: a sort of confessional, which people could call up, detail their wrongdoings, and say sorry. It was run anonymously by Mr Apology, aka conceptual artist Allan Bridge, who became increasingly obsessed with his callers. Allan died in 1995, leaving an archive of over a thousand cassette tapes. His wife Marissa Bridge is launching a new podcast to tell his story – she tells Janice all about it.

The Afternoon Show Single of the Week this week is Edinburgh, by young songwriter Joshua Grant, who last summer topped the iTunes chart thanks to word-of-mouth alone.

Country music singer Ashley Campbell, the youngest daughter of the late Glenn Campbell, chats to Janice about her second album, Something Lovely.

And The Afternoon Show’s Anna Welander is back with another selection of Upload content: creative content submitted by Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio Scotland listeners. This week, it's all around the theme of Blue Monday.
