Join Jack Savoretti on his musical voyage through Europe and the sounds, languages and cultures from around the world he discovers along the way.

Musician and singer-songwriter Jack Savoretti was born in the UK to Italian and half German/Polish parents. When he was seven he left to live in Switzerland. Jack became acquainted with all types of European music, which in itself was influenced by global sounds and cultures. Jack started his musical journey in his native Switzerland where he was influenced by the exotic artistry of neighbouring Italy, artists such as Eros Ramazotti and Zucchero.

His travels throughout Europe as a teenager exposed him to a wealth of world music past and present: the flamenco of Gipsy Kings, the tranquil tunes of Stan Getz, the backstreet-café swan-songs of Edith Piaf and more. He eventually moved to the UK where he continued to soak up the sounds of the past and present across all genres, from disco to reggae, from jazz to folk, from classical to mbube and beyond.

After becoming frustrated with record company's attempts to fashion who he was, Jack went back to his roots. In late 2017, he began deeply digging the crates, searching for French, Spanish and Italian music which provided inspiration for his 'Singing To Strangers' album which would go on top the UK chart.

Jack became extremely passionate about music from around the world and romantically influenced songs. Jack says 'romance isn't just about love, it's much more of a mood. Romance is a mood, a setting, love is a feeling'.

In this four-part series, Jack delves into the music of the singer-songwriters from the 50s to the present day that redefined the musical landscape and popular culture in Europe. He likes to call this 'Music Without Borders'. The journey takes many unexpected turns, creating a rich cultural soundscape from which the artist draws his stories, memories, techniques and inspiration.

In Part 1, Jack focuses on the songwriters that have inspired him and how their use of culture and language shapes their amazing songs. Expect to be enchanted by the Spanish romance of Julio Iglesias, the folk tales from Sweden’s First Aid Kit, the lavish poetry of France’s Charles Aznavour and Charles Trenet, and the dramatic storytelling of Belgium’s Jacques Brel and more. Sit back and enjoy the journey.
