Crìonadh-sluaigh sna h-Eileanan Siar
Tha crìonadh-sluaigh air a bhith na thrioblaid sna h-Eileanan Siar airson iomadh bliadhna. Tha grunn adhbharan airson seo, ach, am bliadhna, roghnaich aon bhuidheann de dh'eileanaich coimhead gu dlùth ri aon de na h-abhbharan sa. Tha iad ag ràdh gu feum barrachd a bhith air a dhèanamh gus an ìre de dhàrna dachaighean a thathas a' reic a chuingealachadh, agus gum bu chòir a' chiad chothrom airson taigh a bhith aig eileanaich fhèin. Bidh Anndra MacFhionghain a' rannsachadh a' chuspair agus a' bruidhinn riuthasan a tha air na planaichean sa a chuir air adhart, agus ri oifigich a tha os cionn gnothaichean taigheadais.

Depopulation in the Western Isles

Depopulation in the Western Isles
Depopulation has been a well-known issue in the Western Isles for many years. Many factors contribute to this problem, but, this year, one group of islanders decided to address one of these issues head-on. A lack of affordable housing in the Western Isles, especially in rural  areas, is driving young people to the mainland, according to this group. They say more needs to be done to limit the amount of second homes being bought, and to give islanders the first opportunity to buy a property, before the general market. Andrew MacKinnon speaks to those who put forward these proposals, and to the officials who oversee housing matters.

Professor Wilson McLeod

Professor Wilson McLeod
As one of the primary academics working in the field of Scottish Gaelic, Professor Wilson McLeod has published a new book looking at the story of Gaelic in Scotland, particularly in the context of efforts to save and regenerate the language.

In the first of a series of special interviews on ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ this year, Wilson speaks to Alasdair MacLeod on the particular reasons behind the long-term decline of Gaelic in Scotland over recent centuries, if there is any use in still referring to Gaelic as the national language of Scotland, and if there are reasons to be hopeful for the future of Gaelic?

Wilson also considers the results of research published earlier this year which warned that, in ten years’ time, Gaelic will no longer be spoken as community language in Scotland.
