Jay Flynn, the man behind the YouTube sensation 'Jay's Virtual Pub Quiz' and also host of the weekly radio quiz on Zoe's show, talks about his new book. It features all-new questions and answers to play along with, and will celebrate Jay's achievements to date. When Jay had to close his pub, he found himself thinking about what he could do to help the nation through the lockdown period. The answer was staring him in the face: he started a virtual pub quiz. It began as a weekly session for his closest friends and family, but his friends spread the word, and soon Jay had a movement built on the same values: to come together as a family, connect with neighbours far and wide, and enjoy a weekly dose of fun, all while staying in. Jay is a Guinness World Record Holder, he broke the record for ‘Most viewers of a quiz live stream’ with 182,523 people watching. He has been nominated for the Granada TV region in Pride of Britain Nominated for ‘Fundraiser of the Year’.

Along with Tina Daheley on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, he and the team have the best start to your morning. With headlines, tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!

There's also a daily Pause For Thought and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought
Writer and Musician, Jahnavi Harrison:Ìý
I’ve been staying with my sister’s family recently in New Jersey, and every morning as I give my little nephew his porridge, I can see a variety of different animals in the back garden. Some of them are familiar – squirrels and rabbits mostly, and some more unusual, like stripy chipmunks. The one that makes me stop and stare is the groundhog. It’s a funny sight in broad daylight! I’d never seen one before this visit. It looks sort of like an overweight beaver, but it can run surprisingly fast!Ìý
I had seen them before now, but like much about suburban America - only on screen – thanks to the 1993 Bill Murray film, Groundhog Day. The animal of the film’s title doesn’t make a huge number of appearances in the film, but is central to the plot of Bill Murray’s TV weatherman coming to report on an annual small town festival that hinges on a groundhog appearing from his hole to predict winter’s end. In an unexplained timewarp, he finds himself caught in a loop where ‘Groundhog Day’ repeats again and again, with only Bill Murray able to remember what happened the day before. At first this offers him the chance to indulge his wildest excesses with no consequences, before ultimately using the chance to begin fresh each day as a path to profound self development.Ìý
The film made a deep impression on me many years ago, so much so that when I first saw a groundhog here, it was like a symbolic messenger come to remind me to examine my current life, my choices and decisions, and check whether I’m repeating the same loop or learning my lessons and moving on to the next. Hindus believe that the opportunity to learn and evolve is not confined to just one life, but many lifetimes – as long as it takes to learn selfless love and service. The repeating loop is not just one day, but samsara- the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. But I can’t remember my last lifetime, and I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. The big picture can be overwhelming, but the groundhog waddling across the lawn reminds me that this day is fresh, with no mistakes in it yet - so I’ll keep growing, however long it takes…
