Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas chats to Zoe about her autobiography 'Behind The Sequins'. Plus they also talk about the upcoming series of 麻豆约拍 One's biggest entertainment show and what audiences can expect from the new series. Shirley, known as the Queen of Latin, is one of the most renowned dancers in the world. Born and raised in Wallasey, by the age of 21 Shirley had won nearly every major title she had competed in. She is still the youngest ever female to reach the British Open to the World Dance Championship finals and the only woman to win it with two male partners. In 1996 Shirley retired from competitive dancing, becoming the highly acclaimed teacher and coach she is today.

Also on the show, Professor David Olusoga speaks to Zoe about his latest book, 'Black and British: A short, essential history'. From Roman times to the present day, the award winning historian and broadcaster has written the short and essential story of Black British history. David has said that this is the book he wishes he was given to read when he was at school. David Olusoga is a British鈥怤igerian historian, author, presenter and BAFTA winning filmmaker. He is Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester, the author of five books. He presents the long鈥恟unning 麻豆约拍 history series 'A House Through Time' and wrote and presented the multi鈥恆ward winning 麻豆约拍 series 'Britain鈥檚 Forgotten Slave Owners'.

As it鈥檚 the 1st of October I鈥檝e been thinking about black history month, and considering what鈥檚 happened this year, I鈥檓 surprisingly more optimistic than I鈥檇 usually be. In the past I鈥檝e really struggled with the month as it鈥檚 always felt a bit token.鈥� Here鈥檚 the month where we鈥檒l spare a听thought for black people in our community, but for the rest of the months in the year it鈥檚 business as usual.鈥� With so many problems in the world, I guess I can be a little bit guilty of tokenism as well.听听The murder of George Floyd which sparked arguably the largest civil rights movement in history has made me feel a bit more hopeful though.听
听
It feels a bit weird to say that, because how can something good possibly come from such a tragic event?听听I remember feeling this way after my Dad passed away in 2017, but it鈥檚 possible. After his untimely and devastating death, I became a stronger person, I was able to help others who were experiencing grief, and the album that I released which was inspired by his passing, went on to be my best-selling record yet. It must have connected with people. So yeah, even though sometimes I can鈥檛 see it when I鈥檓 in the middle of a storm, good things can come from bad situations.听
听
Black History Month this year is an opportunity to keep that conversation going, and I鈥檓 going to see it as an opportunity to celebrate. So often conversations around race are drenched in struggle, oppression, trauma, and inequality. Those conversations are important to have, but I want to shine a light on celebrating the successes, achievements and impact of black people in our community.听
听
So from Lionel Turpin who fought in the first world war on behalf of our country, to Raheem Sterling who fights on the football pitch, thank you.
