Liverpool and Arsenal seek to begin the new season in the same manner they ended the previous one – with a trophy – as they face each other at Wembley.

Liverpool’s penalty shoot-out defeat by Manchester City in last season’s curtain raiser was to prove a rare setback in 2019-20 as they romped to a first league title in 30 years with a record seven matches to spare. Arsenal were one of only three teams to beat the Reds in the Premier League, and Mikel Arteta’s side won the FA Cup for a record-extending 14th time thanks to some characteristically expert finishing from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
