Billie Jean King and Roger Federer, two of Wimbledon’s most successful players, feature in today’s look back into the archives of classic finals at the All England Club.
American King comes into the 1969 final looking for a fourth consecutive Wimbledon singles crown. She is up against British hope Ann Jones, who is looking to avenge her straight-sets defeat to King in the final two years previously. No left-hander has ever won the women’s singles title at Wimbledon – can the 30-year-old from Birmingham make history on Centre Court?
Next, fast forward 50 years to 2009 to watch Roger Federer attempt to regain his Wimbledon title against the big-serving Andy Roddick. The Swiss maestro has beaten Roddick in two previous Wimbledon finals but his American opponent is in no mood to be rolled over a third time.
